Aoife graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2013 and has been practising in ceramics since. Her studio is based in Ballymorris just a short drive from Limerick City.

Aoife works primarily with white earthenware clay using an unusual printing process to create her unique designs. Coloured slips are applied to a plaster slab by paint brushes, sponges, slip trailers and other tools with each tool making a unique mark. Clay is poured on top and when dry, the clay is cut into shapes and then folded.

Aoife’s forms are often determined from this process. Features such as the fold detail on her bowls and jugs are a direct progression from her decorative process.

“I love this printing process and more often than not it is my starting point. It combines many of my favourite ways to work such as fast intuitive brush strokes and messy blobs of coloured sponge work. It’s quick and improvised, allowing the mind to let itself go.”

“As a result, my work combines all of the favourite things I want to see in a vessel, striking colour pallets, unusual shapes and patterns, and of course, functionality. I strive to make contemporary homeware that evokes a sense of playfulness but still is a functional day to day object for your home."
